Passport & Visa

All travelers to China are required to hold a valid visa. The visa should be stamped into your passport by the Chinese Embassy before you leave on your trip.

Requirements for Applying for your Chinese Visa

Passport

  • Your current valid passport
  • You must have at least one blank visa page
  • Your passport must be valid for at least 18 months. Chinese visas are valid for 12 months, and your passport must be vaild for a minimum of 6 months beyond the validity date of the visa
  • If you were born in China or Taiwan, you must also include your Chinese passport or last foreign passport with a Chinese visa. This is in addition to your current, valid passport.

    Application Form

  • One fully completed and signed copy of the visa application form (Q1) available in pdf format for download here: visa form
  • If you choose not to fill out the form online, you may only use blue or black ink. Pencil or any other ink color (other than black or blue) is not acceptable and will cause delays in the processing of your application.

    Photograph

  • One passport size quality photograph, 2X2 inches, with a white background

    Processing Fees

  • Please note that the Chinese Consulate now automatically issues multiple entry tourist visas to US passport holders
  • Regular 4 Day Processing Time - $130US
  • Express 2-3 Day Processing Time - $150US
  • Rush Same Day Processing Time - $160US
  • The Chinese Consulate fees for non-US passports are $30US for single entry, $45US for double entry, $60US for 6 month multiple entry, and $90US for 12 month multiple entry visas.
  • Please note that the processing time mentioned above is only the time it takes for the Chinese Consulate to process your application and does not include any shipping or handling time

    Application Process

  • You may take your fully completed and signed application, photograph, passport, and fees to your local Chinese Consulate for processing
  • The applicant should apply personally to the visa office, or entrust a relative, friend, or travel/visa agent to submit the application on his/her behalf
  • No appointment is necessary
  • Applications by mail or express delivery are not accepted
